Geoff Weatherford (geoffw) > Getting close to the bottom of the first valley. Lets see, I head all the way to that far valley, and take a left? By the way, the map I was following is the same one in the first email. Not a lot of detail : )
Geoff Weatherford (geoffw) > This was the last sign I saw until I got up to the intersection with the CDT (Continental Divide Trail). Yep, I'm hiking up to the continental divide.
Geoff Weatherford (geoffw) > Yayyyy. Made it down to the bottom of the first valley. And, there is the sign telling me I'm entering the "official" wilderness area. No motorized nothing and they don't like mechanical things either (like bicycles, hang gliders, etc.). But, hunters are OK and you can have dogs as long as you keep them on a leash or under "voice control" (yeah, right). Also, you can only have 21 head of horses with any one group (and then they stated that meant "21 heartbeats"; so I think they meant that includes mules, goats, llamas, camels, etc.).

Geoff Weatherford (geoffw) > Here is a shot of some "wild" life. This guy "knew no fear". Thought he was going to jump me for a while.
Geoff Weatherford (geoffw) > There they are. Imagine what it's like if you are a 100 yards away (or, just 50) and looking across a bunch of meadows with some scattered trees. Sometimes you have to spend a few minutes kinda "searching" for the right tree : ) It was actually pretty fun. I had to do the "go to the edge of the meadow" trick once on the way up the trail, but on the way down was able to locate the "trail" all the time.
Geoff Weatherford (geoffw) > Others were just a little harder to locate. Mostly due to this being an old trail (100 years) and new trees and brush beginning to "hide" the blazes. So, here I am looking right at the blazes. Hard to see even though I centered it right in the picture.
Geoff Weatherford (geoffw) > Things look a little different when you head back in the opposite direction on any trail. So, I had to basically "refind" the trail all the way back. I especially did not want to miss where it left the valley and went over the ridge to the Battle Creek bridge. So, some of the blazes were pretty easy to see. Even from a distance. Yes, the trail goes right through there. Don't you see it in the grass? Yeah, right.
