Geoff Weatherford (geoffw)  > Wyoming Trail Hiking > Baby Lakes Trail, WY, 8/19/2005
I wanted to check out an interesting small wilderness area on the border of Wyoming and Colorado. The Huston Park Wilderness. Specifically, the Baby Lakes Trail. Please go to my trail blogging site (opens a new window) for a full description of the trip.

Geoff Weatherford (geoffw) > There they are. Imagine what it's like if you are a 100 yards away (or, just 50) and looking across a bunch of meadows with some scattered trees. Sometimes you have to spend a few minutes kinda "searching" for the right tree : ) It was actually pretty fun. I had to do the "go to the edge of the meadow" trick once on the way up the trail, but on the way down was able to locate the "trail" all the time.
Geoff Weatherford (geoffw) > Here is a shot of some "wild" life. This guy "knew no fear". Thought he was going to jump me for a while.
Geoff Weatherford (geoffw) > Well, got to my truck a little after 5pm. Was supposed to go see Kate and mom in Walden and drop off some coffee, so I knew it was going to be a little late on getting in to Fort Collins (got there around 9:30 pm). So, I did not stop and take too many pictures on the way back. But I did stop on the top of the Battle Pass. Here I'm looking east. So, down in the valley is Encampment, Riverside, and Saratoga. And waaaaayy off on the horizon are the Medicine Bow Mountains where I took my last hike (Sheep Lake). Lots of country.
Geoff Weatherford (geoffw) > Here we go. I cranked up the power on the camera to pull in the Medicine Bows in a little closer. Yep, lots of country. That's all Wyoming in the picture. Colorado is off to the right (south).
Geoff Weatherford (geoffw) > And here is a shot to the west. Neat country. Not many people. You don't end up here unless you want to, and most tourists are all headed in some other direction.
Geoff Weatherford (geoffw) > And here I am just about ready to cross the border into Colorado (headed south to Walden). I already went through the humongous cities of Encampment and Riverside (population, around 10 in each, I think : )
It's a John Denver moment : )
